Buying weed from a pot shop for the first time can be daunting, especially if you end up with a know-it-all budtender who sounds like they are speaking in tongues!! With so many different strains, types of products, and new terminology to understand, it's easy to get overwhelmed or feel kinda dumb. We get it! We were also a newbie once, we didn't learn what we know without first starting at the beginning.....and if we are honest...the knowledge didn't just come to us, we took LOTS of courses. So while the budtender may sound like a know-it-all, they are really just excited to share their knowledge.
When you have finally built up the courage to visit your local pot shop for the first time, we want you to feel empowered and curious. We hope our top tips for beginners will help you feel more confident chatting with your budtender!! After all, their entire reason for being is to help more people learn about cannabis.
How do you want to feel?
This is the most important question. Whenever a person comes into our shop looking for recommendations, "How do you want to feel after you consume?" is our staff's first question after "How the heck is your day going?"
Some responses you may give are:
Uplifted
Relaxed
Balanced
Focused
Positively floating
Not the slightest bit intoxicated
Sleepy
Chill
Mellow
This will help the budtender narrow down your options.
What do you want to spend?
Think about your budget. Prices can vary, so knowing your budget helps the budtender narrow things down for you. For example, you may decide you want to feel mellow. Options for mellow can range between $10- $130, so budget is definitely your next consideration.
We carry options for all budgets because Fernie is a diverse community, and our store is focused on providing inclusion and value. People over profit every time. Never feel uncomfortable letting us know your budget preference. We will never try and get you to spend more than you can afford.
Think about how you want to consume
There are many different consumption methods. The effects of cannabis can last anywhere from 2 to 10 hours on average, with some people experiencing the effect for up to 24 hours.
You can inhale, vape, eat, take a tincture, use an oil, dab, or apply cannabis topically. It is a versatile plant. Check out our free Beginners Guide To Buying Weed to learn more about consumption methods and how long the effects will last.
PRO-TIP
Every person is different, so we recommend starting low (as in low THC levels) and going slow (consume and pause, be patient). Remember, you can always consume more, but you can’t consume less.
We look forward to making your experience a great one!!
